20 Million Results, 4,000 labs, 50% Increase in Testing

SystemOne’s Aspect Optimizes Medical Diagnostic Networks for Progress in the Fight Against TB, HIV, COVID-19 and other infectious diseases

NORTHAMPTON, MASS, and JOHANNESBURG, South Africa; February 16, 2022 - SystemOne announces that its Aspect and GxAlert systems have processed over 20 million infectious disease diagnostic results. This digital backbone for diagnostics ensures that diagnostic technologies meet their potential in countries around the world, where technology's impact can be hard to measure or underst

“With hundreds of millions of dollars invested in modern diagnostics and their required infrastructure, keeping those resources online and visible is critical,” said Chris Macek, CEO, SystemOne. “Authorities can now respond to changing conditions in near real-time, whether those are medical, such as new virulent strains of a disease, or operational, such as inoperative machines or lack of supplies. When information moves faster than disease, humanity wins. And when the information is stuck, such as not knowing whether a diagnostic device is malfunctioning, the return on technology investments plummets, and we become sitting ducks in outbreaks and pandemics.”

SystemOne’s digital backbone for diagnostics is used in over 40 countries, stretching from Asia to Latin America. An internal study covering 7 countries for 12 months post-implementation showed:

  • The average number of tests per instrument increased by over 50%, and

  • The average number of testing days per instrument increased by 31 days.

These two metrics highlight the kind of improvements that can be made in the diagnostic system once laboratory consumables, staffing, resources and errors are monitored and addressed in real-time.

In addition, the system has been critical in planning acquisition and distribution of additional devices as health ministries gather insight into usage metrics and population needs, allowing them to invest in diagnostics where needed, while saving money for other initiatives where possible.

“By establishing and maintaining this digital infrastructure, health-focused countries are optimizing their diagnostic networks,” said Brad Cunningham, Chief Operating Officer, SystemOne. “This goes way beyond rapidly identifying new outbreaks. It’s about reducing time-to-treatment for patients, managing fleets of expensive devices, figuring out where personnel need additional training, and ensuring that labs and devices have the supplies they need to function.”
